ARTIST PROFILE

ES (Short for Eric S. Shi):

• A proud Singapore citizen. One of few artists who not only use AI to create art, but also take the trouble to program the AI in person.

• Trained as a technologist/scientist, having Ph.D. (Major in Chem.) from USA, Ph.D. (Minor in Biophys. and Biochem.) from USA, MBA from UK, M.Sc. from China and B. Sc. from China.

• Researched photonic computers, nonlinear optics, nano-structures, and molecular machinery, in addition to chemical dynamics and reaction mechanisms.

• Worked in academia and various industries.

• Started this AI art studio (ES&AG AI Art Studio) in June 2021.

Currently working with his virtual AI assistants ESAG, ESNA, and ESMC  on (1) creating novel AI paintings using novel digital painting methods, (2) extracting music melodies from paintings, expanding painting from visual art to visual-auditory art, and (3) nonconventional AI technologies for knowledge creation.  A small selection of outcomes of (1) is on display in this gallery.

ESAG (Short for ES Art Generator):

• Created by ES in Jan. 2021 as AI assistant-1  •  a virtual AI bot living in virtual space  •  specializes in assisting ES to create AI art  •  core intelligence based on a proprietarily tailored convolutional neural network (CNN)  •  working closely with ESNA to take leverage on ESNA’s novel discoveries  •  upgrading in the pipeline.

• ESAG and ES are jointly responsible for all AI artworks (prefixed with API) on display in this gallery.

ESNA (Short for ES Neo Analyzer):

• Created by ES in Mar. 2021 as AI assistant-2  •  a virtual AI bot living in virtual space  •  specializes in assisting ES to analyze neural reaction paths and patterns in response to the evolvements of emotional and conceptual stimuli (e.g., art and language)  •  also plan to assist ES in analyzing neural reactions to the rhythmic changes of stimuli  •  core intelligence based on a proprietarily developed AI toolkit (e.g., algorithms for elastic convolution/propagation of tensors in multidimensional spaces)  •  working closely with ESAG to take leverage on the huge amount of synthetic data generated by ESAG in search for new ways to create knowledge.

ESMC (Short for ES Music Composer):

• Created by ES in Oct. 2021 as AI assistant-3  •  a virtual AI bot living in virtual space  •  specializes in assisting ES to read and extract melodies from paintings  •  core intelligence based on proprietarily developed AI algorithms for melody reading and extraction, and music composing  •  working closely with ESAG to take leverage on ESAG’s novel AI paintings.

• ESMC and ES are jointly responsible for the preliminary pieces of AI music created at the ES&AG AI Art Studio.
